Hostel Review: Hostal Chimenea, Banos, Ecuador

Banos, a popular city on the backpacker circuit in Ecuador, is a worthwhile stop for any budget and adventure traveler. When choosing an accommodation, I highly recommend Hostal Chimenea, a clean and well-located guesthouse in the city.

Atmosphere

More of a guesthouse than a hostel, Hostal Chimenea has a very tropical, relaxing feel. The rooms throughout the guesthouse also have a very jungle feel, with plants and vines covering the ceilings. This is definitely a great accommodation if you want to unwind in a beautiful setting.

Rooftop Terrace

The guesthouse has a great rooftop terrace restaurant with panoramic views of the mountains. Budget-travelers will love how delicious and cheap the food is. For example, a massive bowl of fruit salad, yogurt, granola, and cane syrup is less than $3, and you can get omlettes and pancakes for $2.

 Location

The guesthouse is very centrally located, and within walking distance of hiking trails, waterfalls, hot springs, parks, and shopping.

Relax

There are many ways to relax at Hostal Chimenea. First of all, an onsite spa offers cheap massages and treatments, while steam baths offer a healthy alternative to a morning shower. An expansive pool, jacuzzi, and hammock are also options.

Overall Impression

Overall, I was very impressed with the cleanliness, location and staff at Hostal Chimenea. I would highly recommend this accommodation to any traveler looking to stay in a budget-friendly guesthouse with an upscale feel.
